Top tips for planning your same-sex wedding in Spain

Spanish Congress paved the way for same-sex marriages around the world when they passed a law in favor back in 2005. Since then, many gay and lesbian couples from around the world have decided to get married in Spain.  As you may already know last year was a milestone for same-sex marriages in the US with the Supreme Court rejecting parts of  the Defense of Marriage Act. There is still room for growth and acceptance in the US as same-sex marriage is not legal in all 50 states. Same-sex marriage is currently only legal in 35 states, but these strides towards change are great news for same-sex couples!

Destination weddings have been a big thing for a while now, with lots of couples taking a flight to get to their wedding venue. In Spain, destination weddings are an option for same-sex couples, but one half of the couple must either be Spanish or both non-Spanish members of the couple must be residents in Spain.

So, if you’re Spanish but living abroad and want to go back home to celebrate your big day, or if you’ve been living legally as foreigners in Spain, now’s the time to think about planning your Spanish wedding!

To make life easier for everyone, and an option that is especially suitable for a destination wedding where most, if not all of your guests will come from abroad, is to book out a Parador exclusively for you and your guests.

This historical hotel chain, which has all kinds of beautiful properties all over Spain – from castles and palaces to modern buildings – is the perfect destination if you’re looking for a romantic setting for your same-sex wedding in Spain.
