Too hot to handle? 5 Reasons why you should have a summer wedding

It’ll be too hot. This is the general reason people opt out of having a summer wedding. Too hot for the guests, too hot for an outside ceremony, too hot for the groom in this 3 piece suit… shall I go on?

And it’s not only the heat that concerns people. With summer being the busiest season for weddings, many of the more popular venues and ceremony locations get booked up years in advance during the summer months, meaning that spring and fall are becoming second choice for couples if they can’t bag their perfect venue on their chosen date. Venues tend to be slightly cheaper outside of peak wedding season too.

We think there are so many wonderful things about having a summer wedding, and it’s not just the weather. Here are some plus points to having a sublime summer wedding…

 Seasonal Blooms:

There are so many beautiful flowers that are in season in the summer months, and seasonal means better value. Think sweet smelling freesias and colorful gerberas, bright sunflowers and elegant Stargazer lillies, these are all in season come July and August. Yes, you can buy them at other times of the year, but they’ll be imported from other countries and will be significantly more expensive.

Seasonal Food:

Like flowers, food is seasonal too. Fruits, vegetables even certain seafood is seasonal. Tomatoes, strawberries and peaches are all summer fruits. Yes, you can buy them all year round, but they’ll be imported, will be more expensive and won’t taste the same. You also have more variety when it comes to considering your wedding menu. Outdoor buffets, BBQs, ice-cream parlours, all lend themselves better to the summer months.

Honeymoon:

Yes, you can honeymoon all year round and yes, the list of places to go throughout the year are endless – some even better in the winter months, but if you’re looking for a European destination then the summer months work best. London is an amazing city, full of life, culture and beautiful parks, but it can be extremely cold and rainy in the winter months. The Italian coast, Greek Islands, Spain… are all best in the summer months. They’re beautiful all year round, but these places come alive in the summer with their al-fresco dining and stunning beaches.

Outdoor Celebrations:

We love outdoor celebrations! Marquees in the garden, hotel verandas, beachside weddings. What a beautiful way to get married and the themes to go with an outdoor wedding really excite us! Nautical, woodland, A Midsummer Night’s Dream… For us everything just works better outdoors. You can have outdoor games for children (and grownups), outdoor dining and fireworks! Even cocktails taste better outdoors!

Bridal Wear:

We know there are many different types of wedding dresses available all year round, but there really is something super sexy and elegant about the summery designs available. Halter neck dresses, portrait backs and even shorter hemlines are adorable. Footwear? Then think sandals and open toed shoes. I married in August and wore some stunning, sparkly heeled sandals, something I could never have done in fall or winter and something I was so delighted about. How about going barefoot for a beach ceremony? Even men’s suits look great in pastel hues and lighter colors. Not for everyone but we love these tones.

Having said all this, these are just suggestions and are here purely to inspire. Things will be perfect and your wedding will be wonderful at any time of year. Is it too soon to tell you that I also love Christmas weddings??
