We’ve helped you in the past with readings for both religious and non-religious ceremonies, so here are some Christmas-specific readings.

Christian Readings

Christmas is an especially important time for Christians, and choosing to get married around this holiday is choosing to incorporate some significant religious themes in your wedding.

The holiday themes of patience and anticipation, hope for the future, the creation of a family and the idea of gifts are best reflected by these readings:

  • A Gift: The Three Kings, Matthew 2: 1-12 and Corinthians 13: 1-3
  • Family: Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12 & Mathew 1: 18-25
  • Good news: Luke 2: 8-20 & John 4: 7-12

Non-religious readings

For those of you getting married in a non-religious ceremony, there also plenty of readings related to this special time of year when families come together. Here are some suggestions:

The merry family gatherings –
The old, the very young;
The strangely lovely way they
Harmonize in carols sung.
For Christmas is tradition time
Traditions that recall
The precious memories down the years,
The sameness of them all.

~ Helen Lowrie Marshall

Christmas is more than a day in December
It’s all of those things that we love to remember
Its carolers singing familiar refrains
Bright colored stockings and shiny toy trains
Streamers of tinsel and glass satin balls
Laughter that rings through the house and its halls
Christmas is more than a day in December
Its the magic and the love
That we’ll always remember
