After two years of dating, actress Hilary Swank and her fiancé Philip Schneider were married last weekend in the middle of a beautiful nature reserve in California – and the photos released by the couple show just how romantic their big day was.
Taking place on the 18th of August, Hilary Swank’s wedding to her entrepreneur boyfriend of two years Philip Schneider was an intimate affair held at the environmentally-conscious Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, California. And in an interview with Vogue that came a few days later, she released more details from her big day – and it sounds wonderful!
“It was timeless – there’s no other way to describe it – and I was filled with gratitude because I married the man of my dreams, and all the people who love us, and spend time with us were there to see this dream come true.”
During the ceremony, Hilary wore a gorgeous white dress by designer Elie Saab, with an elegant veil that trailed out behind her. The lace wedding dress was custom made for the actress, with a design team of 7 people working for over 150 hours to make it a reality – with 70 hours alone spent on the intricate embroidery!

Having suffered with an illness for two years that resulted in him having to have a lung transplant, it was even more special that Hilary’s father was able to walk her down the aisle. The Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi played during this tender moment, creating a very romantic ambience.
Philip stood with his father, for whom he is named, and waited for the gorgeous bride. Guests included Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay, who was Hilary’s Maid of Honor.
The small private ceremony was conducted in an 800-year-old redwood in the Santa Lucia Nature Reserve near the coastal town of Carmel. Reverend Michael Beckwith, who the bride has known since childhood, performed the wedding ceremony.
Hilary and Philip, who are both very involved in environmental campaigns, knew from the beginning that these redwoods would serve as the perfect wedding venue for them. She told Vogue:
“We found exactly what we were looking for at the Santa Lucia preserve. It is a stunning private comunity, surrounded by 20,000 hectares of nature reserves and an intimate redwood grove overgrown with trees.”
The celebrations and reception with her family and friends took place in the evening in a rustic barn. Many fairy lights were brought in to illuminate the room, in a very sweet touch. According to Vogue, the food on offer included spinach and kale salad, salmon, beef fillet and vegan cauliflower steaks. The wedding cake was a gluten-free chocolate cake that was flown in all the way from Mexico!
Later in the evening there was a rehearsed dance performed by Hilary and her new husband. The two had practiced a routine to the song “In My Heart” by Moby, and apparently it was a huge success, and loved by their guests! There was also a “silent disco”, wherein the guests all wore headphones to dance to the music.
For the evening, the bride and groom changed outfits – both of which were made by Dior, with Hilary’s shoes provided by Christian Louboutin.
Hilary Swank and Philip Schneider have been together since 2016, after the former’s separation from the tennis pro Ruben Torres. Swank was also previously married from 1997 to 2007 to the actor and director Chad Lowe. The two met through a blind date, at which point they became inseparable!
We wish Hilary and Philip all the very best, and say a huge congratulations to them! If you want to see more photos from their wedding, then head over to Instagram and check out the #philary hashtag – the ceremony really was stunning!
