It was the year 2006 in the city of Bauru, São Paulo. Katherine was a communication student and lead singer of a rock band whose drummer, by a stroke of luck, was Gabriel’s brother. It was only a matter of time before the two souls met and the rest became history! At a party organized by the college campus, Katherine was introduced to Gabriel. That very same night began the love story that would forever change the lives of the couple…
A few years later, Katherine and Gabriel were married in a beautiful ceremony at the bride’s childhood church and had an intimate and rustic reception, in a place full of typical “Brazilianness” – that´s plain to see!
Suprise proposal facilitated by the waiter – Will you marry me?
After years of dating, already back in São Paulo (bride´s hometown), Gabriel decided to take the next big step in the relationship: He organized a romantic dinner – the perfect excuse to orchestrate the long-awaited marriage proposal. While Gabriel was in the bathroom, the waiter arrived with a box containing the rings and Will you marry me? written on a piece of paper. (In English, just as she had dreamed). After a few seconds, with tears streaming down her cheeks, Katherine then turned to face Gabriel.
“Suddenly, Gabriel said he was going to the bathroom and disappeared! I was there, sitting alone at the table starting to think that something happened. Then he told me he was dying of shame and didn’t know how I would react, so he left me sitting there by myself for a long time. Can you believe it?!“ recalls the bride laughing.
The venue for both the ceremony and the reception was handpicked. For this special moment in their lives, the ceremony could only be in one location – the Church of Our Lady of Fatima (A Igreja Nossa Senhora de Fátima, Vila Leopoldina, São Paulo), Katherine´s lifelong church where she was baptized, had her first communion and confirmation. The ceremony was even performed by the priest who accompanied her in all these phases of her life.
Love at first sight, the reception venue Tupiniquim Oca was actually a recommendation from friends. It was exactly what the couple wanted: rustic, intimate, with a homely feel and lots of greenery. As well as having exceptional cuisine.
Rustic Decoration by Rosane Giannotti
Directed by the Oca Tupiniquim team, decorator Rosane Giannotti was responsible for putting in place the wedding of Katherine and Gabriel´s dreams. With minimalist style, including the decoration of the venue, the couple sought out a decorator who could bring to life the desires of the bride and groom: rustic décor but cheerful and delicate at the same time. The use of colored components, foliage, candles and lights was the central focus.
“Rosane Giannotti did an amazing job. She catered to all our desires and went even further! The sweet table was much more beautiful than I had imagined, and no doubt was it my favorite part of the decor. Everything was truly perfect!“ says Katherine
Greek Dance, Plate Breaking and Endless Emotion
As someone of Greek origin, the bride had a unique opportunity to honor her father, grandparents and family during her marriage ceremony. The Greek dancing and the traditional breaking of dishes during the party were the most important moments of the event, in Katherine´s opinion.
“Unfortunately I lost my grandmother last year and this was a way to honor her. Seeing the expression on my father’s face as he watched the group of Greek dancers enter the party was also unforgettable. He was very surprised, never expected this would happen,” said the bride.
And if you want to have a dream wedding like Katherine and Gabriel’s, take the bride’s advice:
“Do everything your way, think about what you like and also what would be a not-so-great idea. And remember: It all starts with your budget and lifestyle. From there, look for suppliers that can work with your wishes.”
Finally, Katherine adds:
“Consult the help of a wedding planner! I tried to do many things alone and nearly went mad.”
