A destination wedding is no easy feat, however the Dominican Republic is perfect for an island destination wedding and is world-renowned for its beautiful beaches. Just a couple hours flight away from Florida, the island is more convenient to get to than Hawaii and it´s also in the same time zone.
Andrew and Kaycie at Luv Rox Photography, who operate out of Miami, shot this beautiful beach wedding and we think they captured it exactly as what we´d imagined a wedding in the Dominican Republic would look like. When we think of beach weddings this is what we imagine: white, sandy beaches, stunning crystal waters, white suits, white altars, fire dancers, and best of all, sandals. This wedding matched that dream to a T.
How did you two meet?
Melissa: we met at a friend´s birthday party. We were introduced by my coworker who was also his best friend.

Who made your dress?
Melissa: My dress is from Maggie Sottero & Midgley.
Where did you get married and why did you choose that location?
Melissa: We got married at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We chose it because my family is originally from the Dominican Republic and I wanted Alex and his family to meet our beautiful country. Also, we both love the beach and the outdoors, so a beach wedding was the perfect dream wedding for us.
Who was in charge of the flowers and decor?
Melissa: I found pictures online of what I wanted my own wedding to look like. I purchased some of the smaller items myself and brought them with me and the rest was part of the Majestic Colonial wedding package I purchased. I sent them the picture of the bouquet I wanted and they made a perfect replica.
Any final words or advise for destination brides?
Melissa: Relax and let the resort wedding planner and your bridesmaids take care of the details. Make detailed lists of what you want and how you want things to go and give it to the planner and those you want in charge like your maid of honor and best man. Enjoy your day with your husband. It goes by very fast! Finally, wear comfy shoes! If it’s the beach you’re at, sandals are perfect. By the time the reception comes around you won’t even want to wear heels!
Though we´ll add that if you simply can´t leave those four-inch heels at home, we suggest checking these out! They´re the perfect solution to your beach wedding high-heel dilemma.
