Australian label Paolo Sebastian creates dresses that look as though they were spun from the dreams of fairy queens. Especially the latest collection from designer Paul Vasileff, who was inspired “by folktales of the graceful Nightingale whose song enchants all that hear it.” Wanting to capture the delicacy of his vision, Vasileff sketched all of the embroideries himself and sought to really push the level of craftsmaship and couture the brand is so well known for – the evidence of which is truly stunning.
The famed songbird is reflected throughout the collection and appears in the series of sheer gowns as ornate embroideries and
in incarnations as the metallic fringing and delicate feather embellishment adorning several pieces. Evoking an old world romanticism with modern sensuality, Vasileff has stayed true to the brand´s signature aesthetic and also brought it to new heights of ethereal couture.
Vasilleff himself directed the outdoor shoot for the collection, in the Adelaide Hills. The shoot and the rain perfectly captured the essence of the lovelorn nightingale’s serenade – as though the bird had come to life in the mists and was calling for her love.
