Choosing a wedding venue can be a real challenge if you’re after something a little different from the usual hotel, church or outside chapel. And whilst scouring your home state can throw up enough options, this selection becomes even more difficult if you widen your parameters to include the whole country. However, to those couples out there who want to escape for the day, we applaud you, and we’re here to help! We’ve narrowed down your options to the 10 most incredible – and we have to admit, extravagant – places that you can tie the knot in the United States. If you’ve got a bit of a budget to play with, and a lot of imagination, then why not try one of these places?
Okay, so who of us didn’t want to be an astronaut at some point when we were kids? We see all of you! NASA is where this country’s desire to walk amongst the stars is made a reality, and is a truly magical place for every person who has ever dreamt of exploring something much bigger than all of us. For the most adventurous of couples, the NASA compound in Houston, Texas is the perfect place to commemorate your love. There are several different renting options, but our favorite is definitely the Space Station Gallery – okay, it might be a little nerdy, but for the right couple, this could really be a wedding to remember!
Natural History Museum
Between our editorial team, we have been to eight Natural History Museums across three different continents – and New York’s NHM is definitely the best. Replete with some of the most fascinating and enchanting galleries, the NHM in New York is also one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, with its huge atrium, classical staircases and large rentable spaces. Galas aplenty are held here during the year, and the Natural History Museum even has its own wedding planning team! For a sophisticated – and historical – wedding, we can think of nowhere more appropriate!
House on the Rock
Made famous by Neil Gaiman in his novel American Gods, the House on the Rock is a fantastically bizarre and bewildering location for your wedding in Wisconsin. This giant museum shows off some of the strangest and most fascinating feats of human ingenuity – invention, innovation, and things that are simply strange can all be found here. If you’re looking for character and a venue that is totally out of the box for your wedding, then House on the Rock is perfect for you. Who knows – psychedelic weddings could be the new trend!
Yosemite National Park
Outdoor weddings are definitely in for 2019, and we can’t think of a more picturesque spot to say I Do than Yosemite National Park in California. Renowned not just in America but worldwide for being an area of outstanding natural beauty, Yosemite National Park is well suited for your big day, with a whole team specifically designated for organizing weddings here. Choose your spot wisely – you can have a view of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, or even Bridalveil Fall! That’s definitely an Instagram-able venue, perfect for adventurous couples!
Empire State Building
The Empire State Building is an American institution. We know some of you are thinking it might be a bit cliché, but none of us can deny that having that view as the backdrop for our ceremony wouldn’t just take our breath away a little. And the Empire State has an extra feature you’ll be happy to hear about – every year, a competition is hosted for a special Valentine’s Day celebration, wherein the winning couples are married on the top floor (without having to fork out the bill for hiring the space!). For a breathtaking ceremony, then it’s worth dropping your name into the hat!
The Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
Located near Angel Canyon in red-rock country in Utah, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the ideal place to get married for all you animal-lovers out there. Home to nearly 2,000 animals, the cost of hiring the space here is donated fully to the sanctuary, so you’ll not only have a loving backdrop for your wedding, but be truly helping the animals here. And even if you’re not too keen on being surrounded by an assortment of dogs, cats and everything else for your wedding, incredible open spaces at Angel Canyon are literally just outside!
New York Public Library
I think we all fell a little bit in love with New York Public Library as a wedding venue way back in 2008 when the first Sex and the City movie dropped. And as Carrie Bradshaw pointed out a decade ago, who wouldn’t want to be married amongst the most romantic novels and love letters in existence? Much like the NHM, the New York Public Library is an American institution, and a truly majestic building which would be the perfect backdrop for a luxurious wedding. For literature-lovers, and those seeking absolute elegance, then this could truly be the place.
The view of Seattle from the Observation Deck of the iconic Space Needle is simple awesome. Much like the Empire State, getting married here offers you the chance to have to have an exhilarating experience on your big day, and a truly unbeatable set of wedding photos. For natives of the Emerald City, this is a very meaningful place to celebrate your wedding with family and friends – and if you’re considering travelling to marry here, then be assured that your view will be truly unique.
Metropolitan Opera House
And heading back to New York one last time, is there a more exquisite venue than the Metropolitan Opera House available for all of you sophisticated couples out there? For lovers of the opera, and all things cultural, then it should be number one on your list. With several exclusive rooms available – which are all decorated with an admirably lavish touch for your extravagant nuptials – wow and awe your guests by hosting your wedding ceremony at the Metropolitan Opera. We can guarantee they’ve got some musicians on hand!
King River Ranch
King River Ranch is one the largest ranches in Texas, and since 2016 has been consistently recognised as one of the most luxurious wedding venues in the state. Set amongst thousands of acres of land, you can have your dream wedding ceremony outside under the warm Texan sun, and then retreat to the ranch’s interior – which has been decorated in a wonderful urban-rustic style. Elegant, feminine and ultimately very classical, King River Ranch offers the best of both worlds for couples who love the fresh air, but also want a more formal ceremony.
These are just ten of the most interesting and iconic places you could choose for your truly special wedding day – American is brimming with the most curious corners and beautiful backdrops for you to peruse before making a concrete decision, so take your time and truly look at what is available to you! If money is no object, then the country is your oyster – so why not go somewhere a little different?
