Amanda and Rob are the protagonists of a unique and inspiring love story, two young people who decided to get married not just in a different city, but in a different country on a different continent – a perfect personification of the expression “home is where the heart is“. In the magical and romantic city of Sintra, Portugal they made their vows to love one another forever, in a ceremony so intimate and passionate that it seemed like nothing else in the world could possibly exist. The exquisite day was captured by the remarkable people at Thrall Photography, who made Amanda and Rob’s dreams of being able to reflect on their day for years to come a beautiful reality. They are amongst some of the most pure and genuine photos we’ve seen – so have a look, especially if you’re looking to elope!
Rob and Amanda met online, and then met each other face-to-face for the first time in Texas. They shared a similar sense of humour, and were immediately drawn to one another, and Rob proposed a little while later in September 2017. Tricking Amanda into thinking they were going to be attending a meal at a restaurant with an important client, Rob actually took her to a beautiful waterfall location in Houston and, in the pouring rain, asked her to marry him.
In the initial stages of planning, the couple had decided to get married in California with one hundred guests present. However, after realising just how expensive it would be, Rob came up with the idea of travelling to Europe with all of the money they would’ve spent in the States, and getting married with just the two of them present. After sharing the news with their families, Amanda and Rob went directly to Pinterest looking for inspiration – and found images of the Monserrat Palace in Sintra. Neither of them had ever imagined they would marry in Portugal, nor that they fall so deeply in love with the place.
Amanda and Rob chose a vintage/glam look for their wedding venue and their ceremony – though, as it was conducted outdoors, it took on a beautiful, historical tone also. At their reception, they had traditional Portuguese Fado singers serenading them as they ate their first meal as husband and wife together. Describing their day as “truly magical”, Amanda and Rob loved their elopement in Sintra – a dreamlike wedding for a very special couple. And it wasn’t their last adventure together – now the couple have plans to travel all over Europe, exploring the majesty of the continent.
We wish Amanda and Rob the happiest of lives together, and are sure that they enjoyed their beautiful elopement in Portugal. If you’ve been inspired to elope, check out our advice on how to do this!
