Watters’ 2018 Fall collection is inherently romantic, replete with a strong nostalgia for the excitement and tenderness of young love. This is shown through bold prints, such as the shiny scarlet heart appliqués on the aptly-named Corazón gown, and the use of deep red accessories with the Iris dress; however, it is also present in the subtle intertwining of blush tones across the collection, as shown in Aiko and Ludmila, and the intricate lace detailing that a large amount of the dresses are decorated with. The prominence of sweetheart necklines, fitted bodices, and the soft layering of tulle contribute to the delicacy and grace of this collection, whose name so sweetly translates to soul-mate.
However, there are hints of modernity amongst the more traditional romantic flourishes. The Adoración gown appears chic, sleek and stylish with its simple form – the short sleeves and train, and the consistent brilliant white colour create a kind of classic Hollywood glamour, emphasised further by the use of a diamante-studded bow instead of buttons or a concealed zipper. Similarly, the Liebe and Laska dresses are uncomplicated, free of embellishments and additional features; their simple straight-across strapless necklines and fit-and-flare shapes would be perfect for the confident bride who wants to look gorgeous, but who has no need for frills.
Watters have created a highly attractive aesthetic with the Âme Soeur collection, equally suitable for weddings with a modern or a vintage theme. The vibrancy of the red accessories and makeup is also greatly inspirational for brides looking to experiment with their look, and move away from the natural palette that become more common. And although there is an underlying fixation on expressing intimacy and romance throughout, the diversity of shapes and fabrics means there is something for every woman searching for her wedding dress.
