Wedding Dress Trends 2013: Our Predictions (Plus, What We’re Sick Of)

The wedding dresses from the 2013 bridal collections are nearly here! New York Bridal Fashion Week starts next week and we’re already predicting the biggest trends in bridal for next year. Here’s what we’re excited to see and also what we hope NOT to see in 2013.

Vintage-inspired wedding dresses have long been popular in bride land and we’re predicting that this year will be dedicated to the decade of the 1920s. We’ll be seeing many 2013 brides embodying “flapper style” with loose, flowing dresses and no lack of lace and beaded embellishments. BHLDN – always on top of their vintage bridal game – filled their latest bridal collection with art deco style and Roaring Twenties inspiration. Online retailer Ruche just launched their bridal collection with a lookbook styled straight from the Jazz Age.
Though our favorite American designers won’t be sending their coveted creations down the runways until next weekend, some global brands have already unveiled their 2013 bridal collections.

Pronovias, the famous Spanish bridal house, revealed their collection on Valentine’s Day. The dresses featured a mix of floral and crystal embellishments, 1920s-inspired looks, and textured layers with tulle and classic cuts, including strapless and asymmetric one-shoulder styles.

La Sposa’s 2013 pre-collection features wedding dresses covered in micro-crystals, layers of fabric and elaborately embellished jeweled belts. We love the simplicity of the cut complemented by the cutest of accessories – short veils, gorgeous headpieces and fans. The sheer lace overlays create beautiful illusion necklines and we were happy to see an absence of sleeves. This brings us to what we’re soo over in bridal – Kate Middleton-inspired wedding dresses.

The royal wedding and subsequently, “that dress” were the most talked about aspects in the wedding world during 2012. Sarah Burton’s famous design for Alexander McQueen seemed to have sparked on onslaught of long-sleeved lace wedding dresses all over the Fall 2012 bridal runways and quite frankly, we’re sick of them. Let’s all wave “goodbye” to this dress, shall we?

One bridal trend we are excited to see continue is color – more colored wedding dresses or colored accents on white wedding dresses for a more fun, festive and fashionable wedding look. Stepping even further into bridal bravery, we’re predicting and promoting printed wedding dresses (gasp!) as a growing trend for bold brides. Fancy florals are perfect for a spring or summer wedding and also happen to be our wedding dress prints of choice.
We can’t wait to see more vintage 1920s frocks, heavy beading and embellishment, plus colored and printed wedding dresses for 2013 – what about you?
