Signature Wedding Cocktails to Spice Up Drinks
A colorful signature cocktail is a classy touch to include in your wedding reception. Whether as a pre-dinner drink or as part of the offering at the open bar, cocktails can take your wedding day menu to a new level.
Cocktails are versatile. A refreshing, non-alcoholic, fruity cocktail at a summer wedding will suit guests of all ages, including youngsters and non-drinkers. Classic, elegant drinks such as a Tom Collins or a Champagne cocktail add a dose of Mad Men-style cool to your reception.
If you’re planning on providing cocktails before the meal, the wisest move is to set up a cocktail bar so that each drink is made to order. Discuss this option with your reception venue and/or catering company, and draw up a limited cocktail list. You don’t need to offer the whole bar (especially if you’re on a budget). One to three well-liked cocktails will be plenty.
If your wedding has a strong theme, the cocktail bar is a great place to incorporate it. Serve drinks with umbrellas or fresh flowers in them for a destination wedding, or have a Russian-style vodka bar for your winter wedding trimmed in red and silver. Ask your caterer what cocktail would pair well with your main course options.
Here are some other suggestions:
- A Mexican cocktail bar, with tequila-based drinks such as a Tequila Sunrise and Margaritas.
- A New York-style cocktail bar, with classic drinks such as the Cosmopolitan and Manhattan.
- A tropical-themed bar, with rum-based cocktails such as a mojito and Cuba Libre.
An extra special idea is to create your own special cocktail for your wedding day that guests are sure to remember. Charms around the bottom of the glass or perhaps tiny bottles of the liquor used in the cocktail can act as original wedding favors for your guests.
Cheers!
