Swedish royal wedding

Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria, 32, and her former personal trainer, Daniel Westling, 36, tied the knot on Saturday at a lavish, 1,000-person ceremony in Stockholm.

The Swedish celebration was touted as the biggest royal wedding since Prince Charles and Princess Diana of Wales tied the knot in 1981. Crown Princess Victoria bucked tradition by marrying a commoner – her former fitness trainer – after eight years of dating.

The Crown Princess wore an off-the-shoulder cream duchess satin gown designed by Pär Engsheden. The gown featured a 16.5-foot train, and the bride wore the same tiara and earrings that her mother the Queen wore at her wedding, which was held on the same day in 1976.

Some 200,000 people lined the streets outside the cathedral to greet royal couple, though the monarchy’s relevance is said to be fading among young people in Sweden. Royalty from all over Europe attended the ceremony, including the always-fashionable Queen Rania of Jordan and Princess Letizia of Spain, who wore a nude, gauzy gown by Felipe Varela.
