Just as with colorful wedding shoes, many brides have been using jewelry to brighten up their bridal look for a little while now. Gone are the days when only pearls or diamonds would do on a bride. In fact, the coming of color to bridal has meant that jazzing your dress up with a colorful floral appliqué, belt and now bright shoes, necklaces or earrings, is more than de rigeur.

But it’s not only about color. It’s also about size. Statement jewelry does exactly that, make a statement. That’s right, ladies – size matters. So go for something big, that will draw attention to your best feature.

The good thing about statement jewelry is that it isn’t all about one look. You can go for vintage pieces, perfect with a old world, romantic, empire-waist dress, or more modern, edgy pieces, perfect with plainer dress styles, like an unembellished off-the-shoulder piece.

But remember…the bigger your statement jewelry, the smaller and plainer other things have to be. In other words, if you want a lacy dress, or an elaborate headband, don’t go for a massive necklace or earrings. Statement jewelry is only effective when it has balance, so make sure that your whole look works together.

Where can you get some big, bold pieces to complement your gown?

If you want something unique, Etsy is a great place to start, giving you access to bespoke designers with an eclectic range of pieces to suit a range of styles. Check out the Etsy wedding section and the Etsy jewelry section for ideas. Some of our favorites are revivalwear for vintage-inspired pieces, Alpine Gypsy and Shelley’s South Shore Jewelry.

You can also ask your dress supplier for any recommendations – they will surely know some great jewelry shops nearby.
