New Facebook notifications! Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have just added an event to their timelines and changed their relationship statuses. The longtime couple exchanged wedding vows in a small private ceremony at their home in Palo Alto, California over the weekend.

The couple met at Harvard and have been together for nine years, so a marriage seems like no surprise, yet, it was. To keep the high-profile wedding under wraps, guests were invited to what they thought was a graduation party (Chan had just graduated from medical school at the University of California San Francisco on Monday) and then they were surprised with couples’ nuptials.

The wedding announcement was promptly posted to Facebook: Zuckerberg simply updated his profile to: “Married Priscilla Chan.” The happy news had almost 850,000 “likes” Sunday evening.

Dr. Priscilla Chan looked gorgeous in her couture bridal gown from Claire Pettibone. The subtle but intricate and romantic nature of Claire’s gowns perfectly complimented the couple’s private ceremony.

With their backyard as the setting and friends and family gathered to celebrate their union, you wouldn’t think this humble and intimate wedding was that of a billionaire. It was pretty much the opposite of most celebrity ceremonies. Ahem, Kim Kardashian. And the wedding ring? According to a spokesperson, “a simple red ruby” designed by Zuckerberg himself.
