At times, finding love may seem like a faint fairy tale we may never find. In fact, some spend their life searching for “the one,” only to find that their other half was right in front of them the entire time! This was the case for our Real Wedding couple, Katie and Mike. After working together in the same company for quite some time, the couple realized they were meant to be more than just colleagues.
The Love Story:
Katie and Mike both worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers company in Chicago, Illinois. They originally crossed professional paths while working on an audit engagement, but it took Mike almost 9 months to get up the courage to ask Katie out on a date. Finally, after attending a Cubs game with colleagues, Mike and Katie were able to step out of their professional relationship, and started dating.
One day, Mike treated Katie to a day at the salon for a manicure and pedicure (one of her favorite things.) When she returned home from the salon, Mike had flowers waiting for her, and the program to his brother’s upcoming wedding. He handed Katie the program and pointed out that she was listed on the program as “Fiancé of the Best Man.” Her response was, “Well that’s not right!” Little did she know that would be her title in a few minutes! Moments later, Mike got down on one knee and popped the question. Katie was shocked! However, the surprises didn’t stop there. Mike had invited Katie’s parents to the house, prior to the proposal, and they were in the back bedroom anxiously awaiting for their cue to come out and celebrate with the couple. That evening, the families celebrated together at an Italian restaurant where the couple had their first date together. It was an unbelievable weekend filled with love and happiness, that marked the beginning of their wedding journey.
The Wedding Planning:
The wedding planning process, as described by Katie, was an unexpected learning experience! “It was fun, memorable, and incredibly special planning our big day, but it was pretty stressful at times. I learned a lot about myself, my family, my future in-laws, and my soon-to-be husband. We learned to work through problems and situations we had never experienced before, but, we had fun planning every last detail of the most important day in our lives.”
Choosing The Dress:
“Wedding dress shopping was probably my most favorite part of the wedding planning process. I had an incredible time. I went to the Cincinnati bridal district with my mom and one of my bridesmaids. My sister, who was my maid of honor lives out-of -town, so we Face timed her to get her opinion on all the dresses. She has no filter, so I got her honest opinion! I went into the process thinking I wanted a laced, form-fitting dress, and that’s what I ended up getting! I felt discouraged because I couldn’t find the perfect one after 3 stores. I wanted to give up, by my mom and bridesmaid convinced me to try one more store. It was at that last store that I found the one. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mom so happy in all her life.”
Katie and Mike married in Mike’s family church. It was very special and momentous that they were able to publicly declare their love in this church, along side their family and friends. Katie’s favorite and most memorable moment was seeing Mike at the altar for the first time.
The bridal couple chose to have their wedding reception at Eaglewood Resort and Spa in Itasca, Illinois. The wall of windows in the reception ballroom is what attracted them to this venue. It also had an outdoor patio that was perfect for cocktail hour. The wedding day itself was a gorgeous day and the guests were buzzing with excitement and joy. Mike recalls the toasts given by friends and family being his most memorable moment of the day.
Katie and Mike maintained traditionalism throughout their special day and every detail reflected their style as a bridal couple. The entire day exuded love and happiness as this couple said “I Do” in front of their loved ones.
