Douglas Hannant Wedding Dresses Spring 2013: This is Couture Bridal

A Douglas Hannant wedding dress is not for your typical princess bride. The designer is famous for his experimentation with shape, volume and texture in couture dress-making and his Spring 2013 bridal collection was a standout at New York Bridal Fashion Week.

Probably the most talked about dress was this blue floral wedding gown which has everyone wondering – in addition to that blue wedding gown from Claire Pettibone’s Fall 2012 bridal collection – if the blue will be the next big trend in bridal. Besides not being your traditional white on white wedding dress, the gown’s drop waist to peaked pleats give it quite an interesting shape that is experimental, indeed.

Bridal blues aside, the rest of the collection is just as interesting. The models all wore a wide lace ribbon over their eyes (new version of the veil?) while sashaying in the newest Douglas Hannant creations. We predicted color, patterns and 1920s influence for the 2013 bridal collections and Hannant’s collection seems to carry a bit of all that. There were vintage-inspired lace covered creations, more drop-waists and other 20s inspired silhouettes, a full-skirted pastel floral patterned gown and another experiment in volume with jacquard embroidery and puffy shoulders.
