Bridal Hairstyles for Destination Weddings

The chilly winter months are a popular time of year for destination weddings. Here are some no-fuss hairstyles for brides who decide to head for warmer climes to exchange their vows.

If you’re planning a destination wedding, ask your resort if they have an on-site hair salon or if the concierge can recommend a local hairstylist. Book an appointment as far in advance as possible!

Whether you choose to have your hair done professionally or do it yourself, there are a few things to consider.
Beach weather, while wonderful, can wreak havoc on certain types of hair. Curly hair can frizz and straight hair can go limp in humid island air. Bear this in mind when planning your wedding hairstyle. Sky-high, sprayed-in-place updos are probably best left for indoor, climate-controlled ceremonies.
Also, if you plan to take a hair dryer, curling iron, or other hair supplies that require an electrical outlet, be sure to check for voltage differences in your destination if you’re going abroad. Getting zapped is a bad way to start your vacation.
Now, onto the styles! Most destination weddings have an easy, breezy feel to them. Brides usually choose a more casual dress (we like these from Jenny Yoo), and grooms often ditch the tie. Your hairstyle should be easy and breezy too! Casual, unstructured styles can be pretty and picture-perfect for a destination wedding.
Bridal ponytail

A classic ponytail, either towards the side or worn straight down the back, is a great choice for brides with long hair. Waves styled by the sea breeze (or faked using this marvelous product from Bumble & Bumble) make an everyday ponytail special. Wrap a section of hair or a simple ribbon around your ponytail holder.
Half-up, half-down

Another classic everyday hairstyle gone bridal: the half-up, half down ‘do. This is perfect for a destination wedding, since it keeps the front of your hair out of your face for an outdoor ceremony, but still allows you to have your locks flowing loose.
With a headband

Whether your hair is short or long, straight or curly, a headband is a practical, flattering choice for a destination wedding. Choose your favorite style: a simple satin strip, a band accented with rhinestones or pearls, or lined with fabric flowers and other embellishments.
With a flower

If you choose to escape to the beach for a destination wedding, you must love the tropical scenery. So wearing a real flower in your hair is a must! It’s the best kind of wedding accessory. Tuck a bloom behind your ear or stick it at the base of your ponytail or chignon to make your wedding destination a part of your wedding look.
