1.) Small Wedding Cakes - Skip the traditional cake table, and use smaller, beautifully decorated cakes as your centerpieces instead.  All bakeries that provide stunning wedding cakes, like Oakmont Bakery in Pittsburgh, PA, are able to provide smaller cakes that are just as appealing as the large versions.  Placed on a decorative cake stand, these can really make an impact.  You can even go as far as having cake toppers on each one. Servers are able to slice the cake before your guests and serve everyone at the table.  You may  want to consider having mutiple cakes in different flavors to please the tastes of all your guests.

2.) Cupcake Tiers – One of the biggest trends from the last couple years, has been to replace the traditional wedding cake with large tiers of cupcakes.  You can use smaller versions for the center of your tables.  Cupcakes, like these chocolate ones from Dozen Bake Shop, allow you to have multiple flavors and ease in serving – eliminating some venue’s cake cutting fees.  Embellished with flowers or garlands, cupcake tiers are equally tasty and beautiful for table decor.

I love the idea of using fruit bouquets, but those can get really expensive, can’t they?

The overall budget cost for edible centerpieces really depends on what you want to use. Keep in mind that you are rolling the cost for centerpiece and dessert into one. Instead of paying a couple thousand dollars for a wedding cake, and then spending money at a florist for centerpieces, you’re spending one amount on both. I’d suggest contacting a local bakery for pricing, and your local florist, and doing the math before making a final decision.
