An avid traveler herself, and with over 10 years in the industry, she attracts clients from all over the globe. How do Sophia and her team acquire first-hand knowledge of these global hotspots? They check it out first before recommending it to their clients. Part of their job is to know what they’re talking about so they won’t propose a place they haven’t visited themselves.  Travel Center of La Jolla will give an exclusive series of interviews with Zankyou this summer to give you the best travel tips and ideas for your honeymoon(Check out some U.S. honeymoon destinations).

ZK: Sophia, What are the 3 trends you’re seeing with your U.S. clients in terms of international travel?

Sophia Ariza: The top places I’m seeing for couples are India, Africa on the coastal side such as Mozambique and Namibia and also Brazil.

ZK: Why the sudden spike in these places?

Beautiful India via Travel Center of La Jolla

Sophia Ariza: I think India is popular because it’s an alternative to the swanky beach resorts that we are used to seeing. Also, couples are looking to do something different and India offers a spiritual getaway, but with some luxurious options. It is also largely due to the growth of high-quality hotels, the country’s exoticism and affordability, enhanced media coverage, and recent marketing outreach programs in luxury magazines. First-timers look to discover the Golden Triangle in Rajasthan of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur while repeat visitor’s head to Goa, Kochin, Kerala, Varanasi and Mumbai.

Wild Africa via Travel Center of La Jolla

In regards to Africa, a few years back safaris were a big thing but now the coast of Mozambique and Namibia have become increasingly popular with travelers, as new lavish resorts are attracting tourists — think excellent accommodations, amazing wildlife, beautiful virgin coasts and great safari camps. There is also “plenty of adventure,” and Africa is proving to be a “great family destination.” Furthermore, “people are interested in stretching their boundaries in regards to enriching travel experiences” and Africa is an ideal country for fulfilling this dream.  Africa is also “heavily covered in magazines,” which helps fuel consumer interest in the destination.

Exotic Brazil via Travel Center of La Jolla

Requests for Brazil are obvious since it will be hosting the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016. I think with these global events taking place in Brazil, spikes in travel have significantly gone up. Brazil has one of the best beaches and the most beautiful people in the world. I always hear this and obviously with these 2 combinations, Brazil is a must see for a lot of people. Consumers are also realizing that South America is easy accessible and English is widely spoken. The “terrific hotels,” savory cuisine, majestic landscape, “array of activities” (including hiking and other outdoor activities), European flair and vibrant culture are major draws.
